STRUGGLE OF NARENDRA MODI

Narendra Modi is a prominent Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is currently serving as the Prime Minister of India. He has faced several struggles throughout his political career, some of which are outlined below.

  1. 2002 Gujarat riots: One of the biggest struggles Narendra Modi faced was the 2002 Gujarat riots, which broke out while he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The riots, which were triggered by the burning of a train carrying Hindu pilgrims, resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 people, mostly Muslims. Modi was criticized for his handling of the situation and was accused of not doing enough to prevent the violence.

  2. Opposition from within the BJP: During his early years as Chief Minister of Gujarat, Modi faced opposition from within his own party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Several senior party leaders, including L.K. Advani, were reportedly unhappy with Modi's style of functioning and his authoritarian approach.

  3. Legal battles: Modi has also faced several legal battles throughout his political career. He was accused of complicity in the Gujarat riots and was investigated by various agencies. However, he was eventually cleared of all charges.

  4. Controversial policies: Modi's policies, especially those related to economic reforms and social welfare, have often been controversial. Critics have accused him of favoring big business over the poor and marginalized sections of society.

  5. International relations: Modi has faced challenges in managing India's relationships with other countries, particularly with China and Pakistan. The border disputes with China and the tensions between India and Pakistan have been ongoing issues that have tested Modi's diplomatic skills.

  6. Despite these struggles, Modi has been able to maintain a strong political base and has enjoyed significant popularity among the Indian people. He has been credited with bringing about several important economic and social reforms, such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
